New posts option seems to not be working anymore. I get over 143 new posts and growing.

Yes, we also noticed it.

After a full backup (as usual) we are going to remove phpbb caches and try it again

We have deleted caches, rebuilt indexes, but the problem seems to continue :-(

We need to google for some info about it

I found a way to solve it:

1. Click into your "User Control Panel"

2. Navigate in all its tabs

3. Return to the forums and now "View new posts" is fixed :-)
