Running a FWH app on a Mac OS X

Running a FWH app on a Mac OS X

Postby Marco Turco » Fri Dec 05, 2008 11:31 am

Hi all,
just to inform you all that it is possible to run a FWH8.10 app on a Mac OS X computer simply installing the crossover plugin (www.codeweavers.com) without changing a single line code.

The same plugin permit to run a FWH app on a Linux OS also.

We have at the moment only few customers that required us a Linux/Mac OS X version so the crossover plugin can be a cost effective solution without the need to mantein a version for each platform.

Marco,

I just had a look at the website you mentioned.

One question to an answer I didn't find : can a FWH-application be installed manually ? I have the impression that an installer is needed. Is that right ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Marco,

That is a FANTASTIC news!!!! Now the question is: What about the third-party libraries like: Fastreport, RmChart, and others... would run in Linux with Crossover?

We have been using CrossOver for a long time on Mac OSX :-)

In Linux, you can use Wine, that it is free. In fact, CrossOver uses Wine source code.

There is no need for an installer. In both CrossOver (OSX) and Wine (Linux) you can simply execute the Windows EXEs.

My FWH apps use Fastreport as print engine and no problems have been reported at this moment under MacOS+Crossover.
Unfortunately I haven't informations about Linux+Crossover.

Also, please notice that with both solutions you are NOT using the standard Linux and Mac OSX GUI controls.

So, though they are a very good solutions and will save you a lot of work, they will not look as 100% native Linux and OSX apps.

Hi Antonio,

Yes, I agree with you. But if the app runs fast and all the third-party libs runs ok, I don`t see any problem to use it. Anyway, is a very good option to run our apps on Linux.
