Yes, but LG desitions are much more important for the market that Wozniak's tastes...

As I commented, I am neutral about this. I am just following market reactions

The fact that LG decides to stop producing Windows Phones is a very important one, as it may start a trend...

The Lumia 900 became the top seller at Amazon Wireless and Shakers list with the cyan variant boasting 394 percent growth in first few days. It then outperformed the sales of iOS and Android devices in other retail stores. Now Nokia Lumia 900, especially the Cyan handset, has gone out of stock on AT&T and Amazon.

I don't know how many of you own a Windows phone. I do ! It is the best phone I have ever owned or used ( including iPhone). Why ? Because everything is integrated, and it is so easy to use. For example, the Facebook integration is so transparent, and so extensive ... but you can also run the Facebook app if you prefer.

While it is true that more apps exist for iPhone and Android, the 70,000 plus apps for the Windows phone cover all the important features. So many apps on the other phones are junk, or just waste space. When someone shows me a phone with 100 apps loaded, I ask what they use them all for, and most say "oh, its just a neat app". I use my phone for a purpose, and there is nothing I want to do on a phone that I can't do on my Win 7.5 phone.

Now ... to the sales. I once owned an LG phone. I don't care if they don't make a windows phone because I won't buy another LG phone ! I have an HTC phone and they will not stop making Windows models, nor will Nokia which is what I will buy next. No one asks for the Windows Phone until they actually see one in action ... and I've shown it to people who then did go into the store and ask for one. Often the salespeople try to steer them to a Droid. Why ? Could it be extra commission, or incentives by the service provider ? AT&T has promised to change that, and to fully train their staff on the Lumia and HTC models. I can guarantee the Verizon employees have no clue how to even turn on a Windows phone. Also, I have yet to see a phone salesman ever try to find out what features a customer needs. They have the boxes there, and they simply try to push them out the door. They have no concern about meeting a client's actual needs with the best phone ( tool ) to do the job.

Everyone who sees my phone, and what it can do, is amazed. Some are waiting for contracts to expire and then they plan to get one. At a recent conference I attended, there was an app for the conference that was really great ... on the Windows phone. Those who had iPhones and Droids were not happy with their versions, but it was incredible on the Win Phone. I installed it on my iPad and could easily see the difference. Maybe 30% of the attendees had Windows phones, but after the conference many more were considering changing !

Only time will tell.

Thanks for the clip Noberto
I like many others needed to view it in Chrome as IE did not work. The clip runs smoothly with W7 and Chrome.

I have been following the various Metro topics (especially this one) with interest and am now prompted to add my point of view to the discussions.

Forgive me for generalising but it seems most of us view Metro as a new desktop. This is understandable as we are all so used of programming with a PC. This was also my immediate response also but there is the wider picture - that of the CLOUD.

M$ is promoting their rebranded Live as per the video as an example. They want Metro to be on everyones phone and tablet as well. As programmers it is up to us to supply applications to comply with the CLOUD vision (whether you like it or not). This may or may not be on a windows OS. For me, as an independant programmer, Metro and FW seems to be the best option at this stage.

I was wondering how FW's socket project fits into this picture and was hoping for a progress report?

Jonathan, i agree with you.

in this moment, Antonio and Otto, make an Metro "inspired" design, but this is not real Metro, but in this stage , works for us.(thanks to Antonio and Otto)

Metro is more than UI, but an concept, to appls works in PC, slates, tablets, smartphones, xbox, browsers, and of course, with azure, MS cloud host.

To All

I am NOT a 'cloud' fan and find it more of a marketing tool to generate monthly revenue to the hosting companies.

Take a look at the ipad .. ( as far as I know ) there is no way to easily download a file from an ipad, be it music mp3 or picture or document... not even a ( data ) usb port to copy files onto ..

Lets face it .. if I can NOT put my hands on my data, I don't want it because what goes up in the 'cloud' will never be private and don't think for a minute that the 'cloud' won't be hacked and lots of personal data will be leaked .. credit card information, social security numbers .. not a mater of If .. but When..

Not for me, sorry

Rick, many of us are already in the cloud, sometimes without knowing it.
I think all we have to interact with the cloud, either fully or partially.
a friend said the same thing as you, who would not for the cloud because he was afraid of having data stolen a few months later the company had assaulted and took the server and backups. perhaps more difficult to steal in the cloud that in our company.
I read an article that 98% of Fortune 100 companies are in the cloud or developing for it. many of them to Apple (ipad , iphone) and apple uses microsoft azure server on your icloud.
as you have my fears of data, but seems to be no going back.
i use an cloud service with appl named EVERNOTE, guess have versions to iphone, windows phone, android, very godd, but the data on this have no importance to me.
maybe we have to keep some data in personal server, but interact with some other part in cloud to give mobility to ours appl.

Rick,

I understand your concerns and appreciate them. However, I use Microsoft Office 365 ( cloud service ) and to be honest, a cloud based exchange service is very, very nice. I have the same data on my computer, notebook, phone, and ipad. It is always live, but should a break in the connection occur, it is also resident on my computer. I also use the Cloud to store documents that I want available for access from multiple devices. I do have sync programs available for my devices, but Office 365 made life so much easier !

With that said, nothing in what I use, prevents me from local access, and storage, of my data. Microsoft also does not prevent that from occuring. They continue to produce server products for local networks, and software that works in a small operation ( peer to peer ) or enterprise. Their tools are continuing to provide for desktop, and cloud, experiences.

Metro interacts with cloud based data, but it also can be used easily with desktop, or server based, programs. Yes, Microsoft sells cloud based services, but the prices are very reasonable.

I think many apps will be a hybrid for years to come ... internet ( cloud ) services and local based applications.

"Whereas iOS and Android essentially cram a WIMP interface onto a small display (don't believe the PR speak), Metro has truly and honestly been designed from the ground up for smartphone displays and input, and that alone makes it special. As a geek, you owe it to yourself to at least go to your nearest phone store and play around with Metro."

Windows 8 Release Preview Escrow 8370 is now available for download. Essential for all WP8 developers. Both the Developer Preview and Consumer Preview released previously does not support the development of WP8 apps (Apollo SDK cannot be run on Windows 7).
