Fivewin and xHarbour New Version.

Fivewin and xHarbour New Version.

Postby byron.hopp » Sun Dec 13, 2015 8:19 pm

I want to upgrade my versions of xHarbour, and Fivewin. If I just order the newest release will these two work together?
I am coming from "xHarbour Compiler Build 0.99.61 (SimpLex), and "FWHX 7.01" FiveWin for xHarbour.

I downloaded the Demo version of xHarbour it comes up as "xHarbour 1.2.3 Intl. (SimpLex) (Build 20151017)
Can I just purchase the latest release of FiveWin, and latest release of xHarbour and the two will work together fine?

Thank you,

Byron ...

I believe so, what should I be using? What do you believe is best, I use it exclusively with FiveWin.

Byron,

We do recommend to use the free xHarbour version that you can download from here:

https://bitbucket.org/fivetech/harbour-xharbour-builds/downloads/xharbour_1.2.3_32bits_bcc7_20150603.zip

It is the one that we use to test xHarbour and FWH (current version).

xharbour commercial version is based on PellesC and we have to use VC98 (yes, from 98!) to build FWH for it and as
VC98 headers are outdated, we always have issues with it.

My advise: Use Harbour and FWH. In case that you want to use xHarbour, then use the free xHarbour that we use with FWH,
so you can use the modern Borland bcc7 with it.
regards, saludos

I am running the latest xHarbour ( .com version ) and the latest FWH. There are no unique issues, only those common to FWH when new features are released ( and soon thereafter, resolved ).

I also run Harbour and FWH with MSVC 2013 ( 2015 update )

I have downloaded Harbour 3.0, I have a subscription to MSDN I downloaded and installed Visual Studio 2013, and vc_CompilierCTP.Nov2013. Where can I go to get started on how to compile a simple fivewin application? Should I be using a different compiler, I chose Microsoft because I have the MSDN.

Latest xHarbour from Mel Smith website works perfectly with latest FWH. Mel builds are directly from xHarbour SVN source code so we can consider them as official xHarbour builds. This is the url:

Byron,

Please review FWH\samples\buildh32.bat to use Harbour and Visual Studio to create 32 bits apps.

You need to write to Mel for authorisation (as per message on his website). Did you do it?

Byron,

Sorry for the slow reply. Some of us are using FWH with Harbour ( Antonio has a distribution ) and FWH plus Microsoft VC 2013.

I actually have one code source and 3 different builds:

xHarbour ( xBuilder ) with FWH 1510
(Using UtraEdit Studio Build utility ) Harbour, FWH 1510 and MSVC 2013
Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 with Harbour and FWH 1510

All three builds come from one source code repository, except the xHarbour has some different .dlls

All three builds work. However, I eventually will only use Harbour / Microsoft Visual C because I believe that will give us more flexibility.

You may now that Microsoft made significant changes in VC 2015. We spent some time working on using that prior to the final release, but there were still some issues. I expect to move forward on that project after the first of the year.

You may also be aware that Microsoft Community versions are free, and are the full Visual Studio for independent developers.
