manuel y porque no hace un rename file o copy file y tu le pones la extension .txt

arc1="_banco" o lo pides con get
arc2="arc1+".txt"
rename &arc1 to &arc2

y entonces si haces el append sin problema y es transparente al usuario

yo lo uso asi y nunca he tenido problema con nombres o extensiones

arc1="sss.dbf"
arc2="www"
use xxx
append from &arc2
ó
append from &arc1
