Hi Iris,

Would you be so kind as to write down the specifications of the software we use for our SERVERBOOKs?

Best regards,
Otto

Hello,

for our Serverbooks we are using Windows Server Standard 2019 or a higher version with per device licensing.
There are running dozens of servers - we are installing about 2-3 servers/month with this software without having troubles.
Per system we have 5-7 active users who only get REMOTEDESKTOPUSER-rights and one Administrator.

Kind regards
Iris

This is interesting info.

To me they offered to take the server and user licences in a pack of 5

I received folowing quot :

1) 1 Windows Server 2022 Standard - 16 Core License Pack = 1.144,00
2) 5 Windows Server 2022 - 1 User CAL 49,00 € 49,00 = € 245,00 €
+ installing around 250 euro

Including CPU it is 3445 euro, but this is a heavy price and heavy machine I think.

What do you think of these prices ?

CPU was : 3.445 euro (including software) see below

1 PowerEdge T150
PowerEdge T150
Chassis 4 x 3.5in Cabled
2x 480GB SSD
Intel Xeon E-2314
16GB
Dual-Port 1GbE
S150 Software RAID-controller
iDRAC9 Enterprise
3 Year ProSupport
5x Windows Server 2022 RDS USER CALs
5x Windows Server 2022 USER CALs
1x Windows Server 2022 Standard ROK 16CORE

Dear Marc,

I think the prices are about right, with the Server 2019 version likely being a bit cheaper.

We are reducing expenses through the use of "Serverbooks".
For example, we have the following device in continuous use without any issues: HP ProBook 440 G8.
I am aware of the concerns against a notebook, but I cannot confirm them. We only experience advantages with it - including the screen, easy handling, space-saving.
Compared to the 'real' servers, these devices are simply more lightweight. I can't recall any hardware failures in over 10 years.

We back up using Windows Server Backup on three hard drives and to our Cloud with Synology.

Kind regards,
Iris

P.S.: You could perform the installation on your existing notebook, and test it within the 3-month grace period - so there would be no expenses for now.

hi,

Server 2019 Support will be "outdate" on 09 Jan 2024

in old Day we had Windows Small Business Server
Server "Essential" is new since 2012 and "replace" SBS

Server "Essential" Version is much cheaper than Server Standard
it "include" CAL for 25 User / 50 Device and NO "extra" CAL are need ( only for RDS )

---

while Server 2019 "can" be installed on "old" Hardware, which is not Windows 11 compatible,
you NEED TPM & Secure-Boot för newer Server Version

E-Core, which newer Intel Desktop CPU have, does not work with Windows Server ( XEON does not have E-Core )
have not try Ryzen CPU and Windows Server yet

Jimmy

Jimmy,

It is RDS that we are going to use.

so what :?:

Server "Essential" CAN user RDS like Server "Standard" :!:

---

Server "Essential" is a OEM-Version and "normal" you get it as Bundle with Hardware
but you can legal buy that OEM-Version and use it
