FiveWin on Apple/Mac works great

Post by plantenkennis »

Hello group,

I want to share my results with FiveMac, a perfect programming language for the use of Harbour on Mac computers. Antonio and Manuel (Mastintin) have made a great tool.

I use the software for making a program that landscapers use to make gardenplans for theire custumers. In this program I have the data of 9000 gardenplants and 16.000 images. I first made the program for Windows, but there were a lot of custumers who uses Mac-computers.

I started to use the FiveMac libs in 2017 and was able to make a good working program in just 6 month. Now I have over 80 very happy users of my software. I can use all the same databases on Windows and on MacOs so for me there is no extra work for updating my program.

I hope there will be more people who are willing to use this software, because with more people using it there will be more possibilities in the libs.
Below some screenshots of my program. If you want to know more, please send a message of send me a private email: info at plantenkennis.nl

Great news.
May be FiveTech may continue further development if there are more Mac users.

The libs are already quite complete. I don't have any problems with building good working programs with this software (FiveMac). So I hope more people are going to use this software and support FiveTech with new developments.

FiveMac is very very similar to FWH but not exactly the same as the GUIs engines are different

If you know FWH then you know FiveMac, but you can not recompile a FWH app as it is with FiveMac

In example, Mac Cocoa (GUI) does not provide MDI windows

I won't be able to start until August, but at that time I will being working nearly entirely on development for both MacOS as well as Linux. I already do both, but not with any kind of regularity to this point. I look forward to the discussions that will bring.

Dear Shridhar,

FiveMac Xbrowse is not at the same level of FWH Xbrowse

The more FiveMac users there are, the more it will be enhanced :-)

Dear Shridhar,

FiveMac does not support iphone development.

It is only for Mac computers :-)

Several years ago I tried working with FiveMac. Unfortunately the Mac OS did not support some essential features. Antonio was very helpful but there were issues we could no overcome.

I recently asked and he informed me very few people were using it. I would be happy to get involved again. However one of the biggest advantages to Apple OSs is the transparent connectivity between devices. ICloud makes this popular. We would need a FiveIOS also to truly have an advantage. This would be a lot of work, so it would be important to see a solid committment from developers.
