What panels do you mean ?

The below image is showing the shadow on the Window, but none on the panels. Note that the shadow is subtle (faint). The shadow is being generated by Windows 10 itself, not by any programming in FW.

FWH provides oWindowOrAnyControl:Shadow()

not sure if the effect will be the same, probably smaller

What panels do you mean?

Fivewin panels, create from the TPanel class. That is what is showing in the sample image I just posted--two overlapping panels on a window. Note that the Window has a shadow but not the panels.

FWH provides oWindowOrAnyControl:Shadow()

I seem to remember that I tried that with a panel and it didn't work.

Here is my raw test code for the image posted above. Note that there is code for oPanel1():shadow() that has been commented out since it didn't work.

I am using a FWH from 2018 so this may have been fixed in a later version.

I am getting the following error:

Error: Unresolved external '_HB_FUN_FW_DRAWSHADOW' referenced from C:\USERS\JAMES\DOCUMENTS\PROJECTS\PANELS\PANELSHADOW.OBJ

I am guessing the function '_HB_FUN_FW_DRAWSHADOW' is a function that is in Harbour and not xHarbour (which I am using)?

Also, it looks like this code will only draw a shadow on the left side and the bottom. Win 11 shadows are on all sides which makes it look like it is floating. Here are some examples: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/design/signature-experiences/layering

Progress, now the shadow function is working, kind of.

We need to have the shadows shown faded like the shadow on the main window and they need to be all the way around the panel. For an example graphic see the link in my previous message. Scroll down to the section titled "Elevation."

I measured the gradient shadow on a standard window on my current Windows 10. The gradient is 13 pixels wide and goes from RGB(205,205,205) to RGB(254, 254, 254). So that is what we need on panels too.

With more testing of the gradient on the standard Win 10 window i find the shadow is way more sophisticated than I thought.

The gradient width remains at about 13 pixels. However when the window overlaps several other colors in the background the gradient colors change to blend in with the color of the current background. Thus the same gradient on one side of the window may vary along it's length to blend better.

Now I am wondering if there is any way to inherit the shadowing of the window class so it inherits the sophisticated shadowing? Otherwise I think it is going to be a very difficult task to get the shadowing to work the same.

Alternately, I wonder what the structures are that we are seeing in the Windows 11 samples. Are they actually windows, dialogs, or a new class? Does Windows have a panel class or is that unique to FW?

Here is what your new gradient shadow looks like. It is very strange that it is also showing gradients along the length of the shadow. And it is not showing the shadow on the top of the panel. Note that I only added the new shadow to the large panel.
