MS Sql image Import and smtp e-mail option

I am writing an ADO Sql front end that needs to be able to import .pdf, .doc, pictures into an a MS Sql table.

I have created my table using the a field 'image' data type. I have never written an interface to import a document into a table .. just curious how you would code such a thing ??

Secondly .. this application must be able to send out e-mail without any client support .. Outlook ole is not an option .. any good 3rd party smtp e-mail engines that anyone knows about ??
