DBU
Dear friends,
May I ask you today which "DBU" you are using.
I currently don't have a version that works well.
I edit the data with one dBase editor, but need a different editor to change tables. If there are new field types in the DBF, then another editor is required.
Also, none of my dBase editors are still being maintained.
Maybe we could come to an agreement on an open source DBU here.
What do you all mean?
Best regards,
Otto

Re: DBU
Hello Vilian,
Thanky you.
I just got this tip in the HARBOUR FB and am currently testing with this EDITOR.
The editor looks professional.
What I haven't found yet is.
- User interface for end user and admin.
- How to set relations between to dbf files.
- What I always need is sorting when I click in the column header.
- Incremental search when I start typing.
Then the statistics function, i.e. all numeric data fields are automatically added up
-
and of course search and replace.
Can you please show me where I can find these functions?
For my business, the editor is one of the most important things.
And I have a mix of own made, Fivetech and some editors of our friends.
BTW what do you use for SQL?
Maybe you have something more comfortable as phpmyadmin?
Best regards,
Otto

Re: DBU
Otto,
If you open a table that has a index file (CDX), you can do almost everything you want in this part of the screen:

You can also execute SQL expressions through this menu:

I Used to do REPLACE using SQL expressions

Re: DBU
Hello Vilian,
It is a pity.
The ADS dBase editor is professional, but exactly the functions that we need all the time don't exist there.
Especially now, when we use a lot of small DBF files with mod harbor and these without an index, we need a good tool. For example, I have a food dictionary here.
The web server is directly on the customer server.
Now a receptionist has to update the dishes. He uses the editor from our friend Enrico.
Showcase
control if there are all translations
He is noticed that "Wiener Schnitzel" is missing in a language.
Search Wiener Schnitzel
Then make global control for more missing translations.
Click on header, go to the top, and you have all you need.
This editor is handy like a text editor. But for statistics I need another one.
Although we have all the functions, we need.
LG Otto

Re: DBU
Dear Antonio,
My compliments,
I am sorry I had an older copy. I see it is now a very complete product.
What I don't see is the statistical part of the old WDBU.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Otto

Re: DBU
Dear Mr. Rao,
Would you be so kind to insert your DBF to HTML function into DBU export?
Best regards,
Otto

Re: DBU
I modified the DBU Antoinio mentioned several years ago and have had it as part of my application ever since. I even wrote documentation for it in the manual. My clients have learned to use it.
With that said, I plan to make some modifications because I find it performs very slowly, especially in a network. I just haven't had time to do it so far. It provides everything that is OK for an end user to access.

Re: DBU
Hello Tim,
Yes, that's what I meant by admin and end user mode.
Customers need a simple editor.
FIVEDBU from the samples is very complete now, and we should all start using it.
Best regards,
Otto

Re: DBU
I could also put a next "DBU like" program in the forum, but it seems that many of us are using some 3-party software and that is somewhat strange, since FWH IS database management.
I agree that FIVEDBU could become the best option for most database handling. I also use Fivedbu and Enrico's dbu.
I use it allmost only now for updating dbf structures, for viewing mostly a quick Xbrowser with some settings..
