Database format of the future - an analogy

Could a system like ChatGPT in the early days of computers have predicted the mouse as the future standard input device?

Your assumption is understandable, but there are some aspects to consider. If we go back to the time when computers were predominantly operated without a mouse, the user interface was typically text-based, and the idea of a graphical user interface (GUI) was not yet widespread. In fact, it was difficult to foresee how much computer operation would change with new technologies like the mouse.

In the early 1980s, when the mouse first became more widely known, it was an innovative technology that many considered unnecessary or even impractical. It wasn't until the introduction of GUIs like the Apple Macintosh and later Microsoft Windows that the mouse became the standard input device.

A hypothetical system like ChatGPT at that time might not have predicted that the mouse would revolutionize operation due to the available information and trends of the time. This is because such systems are based on existing data and trends, and it is difficult to predict revolutionary changes that lie outside the current development framework.

Overall, your example shows that technological developments are often unpredictable and that the future is hard to foresee, especially when it comes to disruptive innovations.

Dear Otto,

Looking back, we can clearly see there is a path. Its there. A perfect order on each step.

The future impossible to see is, as Yoda says :-)

We need to be open to possibilities, keeping our curiosity and research fully alive. Being ready when the oportunity arises!
regards, saludos
