What makes difference between XBase++ Alaska and xHarbour ?

Postby shri_fwh » Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:04 am

Hi All ,

I do not have any idea about the XBase++ of Alaska Software. What is the main difference between XBase and xHarbour and why it is too costly ?
Recently they launched XBase 2.0 ( Community Technology Preview). As this new release the PostGreSQL will be native access from XBase and they have other feature also.

Thanks

Last Oct I met with a couple of Alaska developers. I was able to see their products, their development platform, and listen to them about their development world. I wasn't impressed at all. I think harbour/(x) is a much more advanced product. The only thing Alaska has going better than (x)/harbour is that they do hold an annual conference where some 2k developers meet, share ideas, talk about the future, and gather strength. That keeps them better focused.

When I was working with Xbase++ there was a couple of features that I appreciated. Being able to use a mix of console and GUI interfaces in the same application really helped during the conversion process. There were also some pros and cons to their method of database access when creating Multi-Threaded routines.

That feature is available in Harbour too :-) (I think that xHarbour also supports it, not sure about it).
