FW image functions : Will the images quality stay ok ?

I have seen some functions that can but a small image insite a other image and save the result.
Will the image quality be the same or will we loze it ?

The idea :

I have a lot of original images that I reduce in size with xconvert (collection based by FW function)
I want to put some tag's on them like

Sale or -10% or Brandname or onstock (sometimes more than 1 of these) Not text, but small png's (transparent) in the corners of the pics

Image result will Images (500 x 500 pix by 72 dpi) all are online webshop images
