Let me clarify this issue.
xHarbour.com's last full release of xBuilder does not work with Vista. However, they have fixed the problem and the latest release candidates do work fine. I am using it all day long on a Vista Ultimate computer with essentially no problems
Microsoft did change how it handles the registry. If you Run as Administrator with your application, then previous registry interaction seems to be fine. However, if you run as a Standard User, Vista places the same entries in a user registry location which may be different than what you intended. For example, I was writing data to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and it ended up in LOCAL_USER. Vista does track this alternate location, so everything does work fine. So far I have not noted any problems with the alternate location.
The reasoning is Microsoft's attempt to enhance security. If you don't like what they are doing, then be sure to tell a hacker or maybe encourage your local law enforcement officials to re-locate those hackers and virus writers to some remote environment where the internet and computers don't exist. Personally, I like the idea of placing them at the south pole where they can help raise penguins !
I realize it will be a lot of work to properly implement the changes in Vista, but so far it actually makes my dual core processor work much better than it did under XP Pro ... so I won't complain.
