Yes. We have mirrored the forums here to the latest phpBB:
http://www.fivetechsoft.com/forums/but it seems to me that it has he same cookies issue.

Unfortunately, the problem is not solved yet.

Maybe the problem comes from the PHP sessions time expiration. This may have changed in the server settings.
We should look for PHPBB and ini_set('session.gc_maxlifetime', nTime );

We do have a local php.ini and this value inside:
; After this number of seconds, stored data will be seen as 'garbage' and
; cleaned up by the garbage collection process.

http://php.net/session.gc-maxlifetimesession.gc_maxlifetime = 1440
whats the right value to place theere ?

Already changed
inside local php.ini:
session.gc_maxlifetime = 65535
Lets see if this makes a difference...

Did you install PHPBB from a phpbb of from a hosting tool ?
I read many issue with login when installed from a hosting system...

Not that long ago you moved the forum to a new domain..
That time it was a copy/paste from the old to the new domain, and not a install, right ?
